Chailly has published the entire Brahms collection. I remember that almost all of Brahms' orchestral works were recorded on that album. Is there a reason why this serenade was released separately? Among the Brahms pieces, "Variations on a Theme by Haydn", which are considered to be the most popular, except symphonies and concertos, were also included in the Brahms collection. So my guess is Chailly seems to cherish this song. And as you can prove it, it's a pretty good serenade.

Serenade is said to have originated in Italy. The image and description of the serenade that we often have are in accord with each other. So I will not give a detailed explanation. But Chailly did not choose the traditional approach to this serenade. Instead, he succeeded in interpreting a different serenade with a similar approach that he had shown at Beethoven and Brahms. Serenade, interpreted by Shay, is an imposing figure.

Overall, it maintains a slightly faster tempo. In the case of Beethoven's entire collection, I remember that the relatively fast tempo became a hot topic. However, in the case of this serenade, it is unlikely that people's evaluation will be so humiliated. Because it gave a very cute dynamism to the theme melody instead of a little tempo. If you are wondering, I recommend that you listen to the first movement and the sixth movement. The accent felt by Chailly is humorous and cute, and you will soon be able to figure out how well they are positioned in the movement.

Even in the rest of the movements, this remarkable rhythm gives a lot of liveliness to parts that are likely to get bored. Compared to other recordings, I do not think there is a conductor in this part that can follow Chailly. If there is something that is not good enough, I do not like the song that I like very much in the case of Serenade No.2. I think it would be more appealing to fans if you couples together "Variations on a theme by Haydn" with the exception of No.2.

Chailly is a conductor who has the ability to express enough to the world to choose a song that is fully operative but does not perform well. It has already been proven through many previous recordings. There are various recordings, but to mention a few, Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 is released in the London version (the early version) and Shostakovich's jazz songs. Personally, I think that the conducters of the present age should actively do this. As Osmo Vänskä said, can not you continue to record Beethoven symphonies that are already overflowing in the market? New interpretation is good now (I doubt new interpretation will come out more), but new content itself is necessary for classical music. In this sense, I look forward to the future of Chailly.
